THE INFORMATION FOR PROGRAMME RE-ACCREDITATION APPLICATION BSc. RENEWABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING
The Renewable Energy curriculum prepares graduates to address Ghana’s energy needs. The skills acquired should help students’ engineering careers. The programme seeks to develop graduates with innovative sustainable energy solutions for professional and non-professional careers. Graduates will have special skills which can be applied widely in industry and commerce. They will also acquire other transferable skills such as good communication, teamwork, and lifelong learning.
The Renewable Energy Engineering programme provides knowledge in the scientific and engineering foundations and skills for understanding and mitigating the environmental impacts of energy conversion and usage. The programme also includes some aspects of materials sciences, chemistry, geosciences, and biosciences that support energy processes, environmental remediation, and waste management. Students would be equipped with skills to analyse the relevance and the effectiveness of regulations governing renewable energy development. Energy efficiency is equally given serious attention.
The objectives of the programme are to:
- Prepare students to deliver energy efficient solutions to address the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy.
- Develop students for professional careers in the energy sector and build their enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.
- Equip graduates with skills in conducting scientific research and developing practical technologies in the management of renewable energy resources in Ghana and across the globe.
The curriculum has been designed using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) pedagogical approach and the student will undertake project in every semester till the end of the programme. The implementation of this curriculum will give the students a good and better hands-on experience and exposure to problem solving skills within the society. This will give them the set skills and the potentials to set up their own company and also employ their mates. This will assist in solving the problem of unemployment in the Ghana and in Africa.
