Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

The Third f2f training workshop in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was held from April 8th to 11th, 2019 in KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana. The program followed the proposed general outline.

The meeting with the Local Task Force (LTF) on Monday morning mainly focused on the need for further EU support during the upcoming curriculum development process. Monday afternoon, a successful awareness raising conference was held, with 106 participants, mostly managers, teachers, and students from KNUST, but also participants from universities affiliated with KNUST. The two EU team members presented the EEISHEA project and the ABC Learning Design workshop approach to curriculum development.

Tuesday and Wednesday the peer training and peer learning took place, according to the proposed programme. The trainers were the local experts in each of the 4 cross-cutting areas and the audience numbered 18 persons, including the LTF and several subject matter experts and other interested teachers.

On Thursday, the ABC Learning Design workshop took place, with a total of 24 participants, LTF members, subject matter experts and students from the study programme being redesigned, BSc Aquaculture and Water Resources Management. This way of visual, hands-on planning was new to all participants, and when asked for a spontaneous evaluation of the workshop the words used by participants were, for example, amazing, revealing, very useful, enlightening. In general, there was agreement that it had been an eye opener to work with the full curriculum and there was a strong wish among participants to take the work of redesigning the curriculum further.

On Thursday afternoon, by the end of the workshop the discussion focused on how to take the work further. Two points were stressed: The Programme Qualification Profile needed to be revised and the work carried out in the ABC Learning Design workshop needed to be taken further.
